Cold sores are unsightly, contagious and very painful sores, normally occurring on the edge of the lip or nose.
Cold sores are created by the replication process of the herpes simplex virus type 1 or type 2. Current studies show that about 77% of cold sores are caused by the herpes simplex type 1 and about 23% by the type 2 version of this simplex virus.
For the most part, cold sores caused by either type of the herpes virus are identical. They both look the same, hurt the same, are just as contagious, and last about the same amount of weeks.
Cold sores will occur and reoccur in about the same location as the initial infection. For example, if your cold sore appears on your upper left lip, then this is the site of the original infection. The virus that causes cold sores lives in the nerve cells.
It will seek out the nearest nerve fibers at the site where the virus enters the body. That herpes virus will make a home in that particular nerve fiber for the rest of your life.
Now don’t be fooled. You can be infected several times in different locations. If another cold sore appears on your lower right lip, this is a different infection and you now have located another “family” of the cold sore virus living in another nerve fiber.
When you have a cold sore, keep in mind that you are not only very contagious to others, but to other locations on your own body too. Cold sores can appear anywhere on the body where the virus found a crack in the protective skin layer.
The herpes simplex virus normally is in hibernation farther down the nerve fibers from the surface. If you get a cold sore on your upper left lip, chances are this virus is hiding in the nerve ganglia near your left ear.
Your body defenses create cold sore anti-bodies each time you have a cold sore outbreak. These anti-bodies surround and help keep the herpes virus asleep. Should there be some stress in another part of your body, these defenses may weaken and the cold sore virus will snatch the opportunity to move to the surface and create new viruses.
The herpes simplex virus cannot reproduce itself. The virus will enter a nerve cell and force the cell to clone copies of itself. When the cell becomes full of new virus, the original virus will destroy the cell to release all the new clones. This destruction of millions of cells in a close area create those hideous open cold sores.
The open cold sore would be painful enough, but it is even more so because the herpes virus creates the cold sore right on the end of that nerve fiber. The pain is quite similar to a dentist hitting a nerve.
The most common way of infecting others with cold sores is kissing. Doting relatives and friends usually infect children before they are seven. Remember, you are contagious from the first tingle until about two days after complete healing.
Cold sore sufferers will many times create a new area of infection on their body with contaminated fingers or towels. The fluid that weeps from cold sores is teaming with fresh virus looking for a new home.
If you have a cut on your finger and you get even one virus in that cut, you will likely get cold sores on your finger.
The body will naturally cure your cold sores without any special cold sore treatment but it often takes three to four weeks. A long time to be socially sidelined and feeling poorly.
There are many over-the-counter and prescription treatments for cold sores. The best and quickest relief comes from topical treatments – a salve or ointment that you put directly on the cold sore.
There are some prescription pills that are available but these are generally slow acting, giving no immediate relief for the cold sore sufferer. For the most part, oral remedies from the drug companies have been dismal failures.
Many people have reported great success with oral doses of the amino acid Lysine. Recommended dosage is 1000 mg. twice a day during the cold sores outbreak and 500 mg. per day between cold sores.
Ice is still the most universal and readily available cold sore treatment. Put ice cubes in a zipper type plastic bag and you’ll avoid a lot of mess. Ice reduces swelling, deadens the pain, and helps discourage the cold sores virus. And applying ice at the first sign of a cold sore often prevents the cold sore from actually occurring or shortens the life-span of your cold sores.

Pain is your body’s way of letting you know that something is wrong. It is a natural defense that prevents you from causing further damage to an affected area. After surgery the pain prevents you from doing things that could damage the surgical area. People who suffer from arthritis will often experience joint pain and stiffness to the affected joint. There are two types of arthritis pain; acute pain which temporary in nature and chronic pain which is either recurring or permanent.
Acute arthritis pain can flare up and last for a few hours or a few days. This type of pain becomes less intense as an area heals. Chronic arthritis pain is often severe and never goes away permanently. Chronic pain can often be controlled but is never cured. It is this type of pain that will often limit a person’s activities. With time and age, people who suffer from arthritis pain will probably see an increase in the pain as well as a decrease in daily activities.
The degree of arthritis pain will vary from one individual to the other. Some will only experience inflammation of the joints while other will also have inflammation of the tendons, which is known as tendonitis. People who develop tendonitis will experience more pain than those who only have joint pain. Often the amount of daily activity will affect the amount of pain one experiences.
Preparing For A Visit To The Doctor
People who have been diagnosed with arthritis will need to stay under the care of their doctor to help them control their symptoms. The more information you can provide your doctor the better he will be able to help you. Before your visit you need to keep a diary of your activities. This diary should include when you felt pain and the degree of that pain. Most doctors will ask you to rate your pain on a scale of 1 to 10. They will also ask you to describe you pain such as aching, stinging, burning, etc. Keep up with the times of day when your pain is worse. Also keep up with your diet and the foods you have eaten since some foods will trigger arthritis pain.
Your doctor will also want to know if anything helped ease the pain. Things such as ice packs, heat packs, or over the counter analgesics may help with pain reduction. By providing your doctor with a full picture of when and how the pain is occurring will help him understand what is going on and how best to treat it. Early treatment will provide you with the best chance of arthritis pain control as well as preventing joint damage.

There is quite some amount of risk involved in not caring for your diet, which when not properly taken, can cause you many discomforts including having arthritis. With a proper arthritis diet, there is a better than even chance that you can keep yourself from becoming a victim of severe arthritis pain. Taking a diet that promotes arthritis is something that is an absolute no-no, though it is something that many people still continue taking. They should take care and avoid certain diets that are known to promote and even aggravate the arthritis condition.
Low Fiber Content Will Do You Good
If you persist with a diet that contains red meat, white flour as also dairy products and you also cannot refrain from eating junk food, don’t be surprised that your arthritis condition gets worse. An arthritis diet would generally have low fiber content and good examples of such an arthritis diet food include commercially produced red meat, sugar as also milk. Taking such an arthritis diet will ensure that such low fiber content does not flow through your digestive tract and thus will not aggravate the arthritis condition.
However, if you insist on eating saturated fats, you can expect more arthritis pain and worsening of your condition. Such saturated fats should not form part of an arthritis diet and are typically found in animal foods and are a known cause behind increased joint inflammation, and is known to cause stiffness and swelling of the joints. In addition, your diet should not have much acidic content as high levels of acidity are known to be a major reason why a person has arthritis.
Any arthritis diet should preferably contain fruits of alkaline nature as also vegetables, raw seeds, peas, nuts, grain and finally, fish. Taking these foods and incorporating them in your arthritis diet should help reduce the acidic condition and ease the pain and anguish that arthritis would otherwise cause.
That is not to say that there are not many detractors of the benefits of arthritis diet and many doctors doubt the positive effects of such a course of action on alleviating the problematic condition. Still, there is no denying the fact that diet can contribute positively to a person’s health and so, one would not be doing any harm in converting to an arthritis diet in a bid to improve one’s arthritic condition because weight as well as nutrition is important factors in arthritis.
So, a diet of vitamins, minerals, supplements, and also herbal applications may, in the end, prove to be successful in treating an arthritic condition and could well be incorporated in a good arthritis diet.

Arthritis is a common cause of pain in the joints, especially among the elderly. Persistent, aggrivating, and excruciating, arthritis is capable of reducing the quality of your life by hindering your everyday movements.
Arthritis prevention is reliant on an early diagnosis. Once you are diagnosed with arthritis, you should take steps towards arthritis prevention immediately to ensure that no further joint damage occurs. What basic habits can you change to prevent arthritis? It’s not as difficult as you might think.
Changing Your Life Style
Arthritis prevention requires changing certain aspects of your lifestyle. By simply adjusting your diet and amount of exercise, you can make a major leap toward preventing arthritis.
You diet is one aspect of your life that you should consider changing if you are trying to prevent arthritis. In studies completed by the University of Manchester, it was determined that those people who had a low intake of fruits and vegetables, predominantly those fruits and vegetables containing Vitamin C, had an increased risk of developing arthritis.
Even swapping out your usual can of Coke for a healthy dose of green tea can help with arthritis prevention. Studies have shown that the catechins found in green tea, which are also full of antioxidants, both slow down the breakdown of cartilage and reduce inflammation of the joints.
Another important lifestyle change you can make is increasing the amount of regular exercise you complete. Not only does regular exercise work to prevent arthritis by building and maintaining strong and healthy joints, but it can also help to decrease the pain and fatigue which are often associated with the disease.
Both increased exercise and a better diet will help with weight maintenance, which is another method of arthritis prevention. Maintaining a healthy weight can reduce the stress on your joints and can help to prevent arthritis from developing in your hips, hands, and knees.
Last Resort
Some people choose medical options in order to prevent arthritis. One such option is estrogen replacement therapy, which is proven to increase bone density and reduce bone loss. Some medicines commonly used to replace estrogen include Alendronate and Raloxifene.
Living Life To The Fullest
The prevention of arthritis might not be of concern you now. However, you never know if, ten years from now, you might be faced with the severe challenges and disappointments that accompany the disease. Don’t wait for that time to come; take the first steps towards arthritis prevention now!

Lasers are one of the newer healing devices on the market today. Low level laser therapy has been shown to be effective in treating sprains and strains, carpal tunnel, fibromyalgia, tendonitis, bursitis and a host of other problems. But just how does this space-age technology actually work? How do laser healing?
Light has been used as a healing modality for centuries. The ancient Indians and Chinese used color to heal and it is an important part of Aurvedic healing. Sunlight has long been regarded as playing an important role in healing. Some cultures even worshiped the sun as a healer.
Lasers and sunlight are both forms of electromagnetic energy. Lasers produce what is known as monochromatic light. The first laser was developed by Theodore Maiman in the year 1960. Maiman was able to produce a red light that contained one frequency. Sunlight contains many frequencies of light. You can see the various frequencies of light by sending sunlight through a prism and observing the rainbow of colors. The colors correspond to the different frequencies.
Later in the 1960’s Dr. Endre Mester thought that malignant tumors in rats would not grow if they were exposed to low level laser light. To his disappointment the laser had no effect on the tumors and they continued to grow. However, all was not lost because he made an important observation. The skin incisions made in the rats healed faster. Like sunlight, tissue healing was stimulated with lower exposures while damage occurred with higher exposures. Mester’s work laid the foundation for the low level healing lasers we see today.
Lasers heal on a cellular level. The mechanism has similarities to photosynthesis in plants. Plants take energy in the form of sunlight and store it in a molecule called adenosine triphosphate or ATP. Lasers stimulate tiny structures inside cells to also produce ATP. The result is an increase in the cell’s function which can include facilitating healing systems such as decreasing inflammation and assembling components for repair.
If we look at healing with lasers and photosynthesis in terms of information exchanges we see more similarities. Plants use the information in light in order to maintain their complexity. In other words plants take sunlight and use it to build larger more organized molecules from simpler less organized molecules. If we see damaged cells as more disorganized than normal cells then lasers work by the same mechanism. Laser light is taken in by the disorganized damaged cell and helps the cell to become more organized. As cells increase their level of organization they heal. Light then can be seen as a source of healing information.
The future is bright for low level laser therapy as studies are underway investigating its effects on a variety of problems. Perhaps lasers can become finely tuned information sources that promote healing for many conditions. Maybe even someday they will be available as over the counter devices.

Planning you day and setting yourself small realistic daily goals is the first step towards making stress work for you instead of against you.
It can be very helpful to look for small satisfactions during the course of your working day, achieving small goals and giving your self a pat on the back in the process can really change your day and have the effect of easing the workload, rather than just hoping that at the end of your day that there will be one large one.
Setting small achievable goals, such as, dealing with a set number of emails or telephone calls can have the effect of really brightening your day because you actually feel as though you are making some serious progress. Each one of these smaller goals in turn rolls up to help you to achieve the greater goal, which is total completion of your allocated tasks. This can be an excellent source of great satisfaction for you and leaves you feeling as though your days labor has been very worthwhile and productive.
Stop dwelling on what you should have accomplished yesterday, yesterday is gone and you can’t bring it back no matter how much you might wish you could, concentrate on today, because whatever you do today shapes the course of your tomorrow.
Always be entirely true to yourself, don’t assume that you are perfect, but at the same time there is no benefit in being over harsh with yourself. Acknowledge that you are less than perfect, as are we all, but don’t punish yourself.
Look to someone you admire and if you look closely enough you will see that they also have their weaknesses and imperfections. No one is perfect, so don’t beat yourself up over it. Concentrate on what you do well and you will feel and be more successful in all your endeavors.
Using your time efficiently is the most effective way of dispelling any feelings of wastefulness you may have at the end of the day. Carefully plan your time, don’t waste it, it’s the most valuable asset you posses.
Allocate realistic deadlines for each task you have to carry out. Above all try not to under estimate the time required to complete a task as this is one of the major causes of work place stress and if not nipped in the bud early on can lead to serious bouts of depression.
Keeping a stress diary is a very good idea, keep a log of each days stressful encounters and go over it at the end of each day, analyze it and look at alternative ways to accomplish stressful tasks.
If certain duties appear too stressful for your comfort, break them down into smaller and more manageable tasks and you will be surprised at the speed with which you accomplish even the most unpleasant of jobs.
Be totally and completely honest with yourself in your diary, it’s only you that is going to see it, so there is no need to dress it up in any way. Don’t forget it’s for your eyes only, that is unless you wish to discuss it with your partner or a close friend. If you do decide to discuss your problems ensure that the person you choose is a trusted confidant, otherwise you may only serve to unnecessarily exasperate your situation.
Forward planning is the key to alleviating stress in the workplace, always put aside some quiet time to plan your next day in advance ensuring that you definitely allow yourself adequate time to accomplish all that you have to.
You will soon realize that what at first caused your stress levels to rise is in fact simply down to bad time planning and as you become more accustomed to keeping and dealing with your stress diary you will find that previously stressful situations can now easily be taken in your stride.
Continual daily stress can have devastating effects on both your work life and your home life. Remember it pays to divide the two. Where ever possible don’t take your work home, if this is unavoidable ensure that your family and friends are aware that you need to spend some time working and ask for their consideration so that you an complete the tasks more quickly.
Co-operation and not conflict is the key to handling stress, and setting aside some time for simple planning will allow you to achieve much more in the same amount of time, and your stress levels as well as your mental fatigue levels will be much lower, and you and all around you will be all the happier for it.

Open up to other people (self disclosure) are like currency, has two sides. On one side is entering a more mature relationship. On the other hand, there is the risk of ridicule and betrayed. However, self-disclosure is a signal the development of healthy relationships that need to be managed.
Sometimes we are amazed by someone who is very open to tell you what he thinks, feels, and wants. Despite many difficulties or deficiencies, life as perceived as being lighter, and without the burden.
We can become more comfortable interacting with a person like that. Because he was open, we can become more open, and ultimately lasted more intimate relationship and mutual trust.
However, on other occasions sometimes happens otherwise. We should feel disgusted with someone who is so open to things that are very personal, which we think is not appropriate to tell our people.
Call it name Mr. X, to my friends outside the office he told how the habits that occurred in his office: that the project in his department was only 20 percent of the operational, and the other 80 percent divided between the chairman and certain employees, including himself. He told me it was not based on a concern because he himself pleased with the part.
At other times, Mr. X reported that he was a meeting with a boss for the same go to a psychic practices for a particular purpose. Not for matters other diseases or disorders, but for launching a goal he did not tell. The story is in the neighborhood of people who live with the ethical management culture rather than sympathetic, even generate ridicule.
This also occurs in the first friendly conversation between a taxi driver (male) with a female passenger. At the end of the conversation, the passenger who had been glad to hear the stories of everyday taxi driver finally felt humiliated because he was later flooded with success stories of women going out with some taxi passengers.
In addition to positive and negative conditions as described above, there are other conditions that we can make reference to determine when and how should we open up.
In a company, Lisa (not her real name) almost had laid off after almost a year to work. The reason, not because he did not have the ability or the deviation, but because of family problems that interfere, so that its performance as an assistant manager was declined.
During Lisa’s problem goes very nervous, but did not dare tell the boss that was not worth discussing personal issues with the office. Long story short, when he reprimanded the boss, he finally ventured to talk, and eventually changed his superior attribution.
The manager came back to put confidence in the ability of Lisa, and he himself continued to provide support in overcoming the problem Lisa. Lisa finally able to work more quietly because understood the situation. With superior, though still formal, well developed personal relationships that provide a sense of comfort.
Behind the stories above in passing we may find that self-disclosure is required, particularly in relation to long-term relationships (friendships, marriage, employment, etc.), and that there needs to be specific rules for self-disclosure that is constructive.
De Janasz, Dowd, and Schneider (2002) in his book Interpersonal Skills in Organizations provides information on how to open up, benefits, and the things that hinder.
Things Revealed
There are signs in the expression of that relationship to be effective:
* More feelings than facts. When we express the feeling of others, then we allow others to recognize who we really are. For example, information on how we develop relationships with our brothers and sisters to make other people understand us, rather than simply providing information that we have a brother.
* The expanded and deepened. Maybe we are still experiencing discomfort share experiences with someone who should be close to us. It needs to be done to develop a relationship to a more in (more to express her feelings toward a particular issue) and extended (to discuss various issues, such as work, family, religious experience, and so on).
* Focus on the present, not the past. When sharing experiences about the past we used to explain why a particular act is of catharsis (release of tension), but can be left feeling that we are weak. This happens especially if the disclosure does not take reciprocal. So, we better focus on the present situation.
* Lead back. We must always match the level of our openness with openness of the people we meet. Be careful, do not open up early, before you get through the development of a familiar relationship and mutual trust. On the other hand, if necessary, do not need to wait for people to open up. Do not be afraid to launch an important step to build relationships. Give examples, and others will adapt. If people do not respond in a balanced way, stop these steps.
Many Benefits
Self-disclosure has the benefit for each individual and for the relationship between the two parties. By opening up and returned self-disclosure to others, we can improve communication and relationships with others.
In detail, the benefits are:
* Lighten. Share with others about themselves or the problems that we face, can provide psychological conditions ease. For example, a story about the exam or the inability to end a relationship with someone. How do we overcome this? How to view others? By opening up, we gain additional perspective to help themselves to see the point of frustration from the viewpoint of others.
* Helping the validation (testing accuracy) perception of reality. With his own point of view, we may tend to use the idealistic according to size yourself. When we communicate that with the right person (who provide sympathetic, supportive, trustworthy, and a good listener), we not only get approval, but also information needed to better understand ourselves, what we need to understand the world in a more realistic.
* Reduce tension and stress. When we deal with tension or stress for some reason, if not expressed would develop into an explosive (explosive). Conversely, if disclosed to others, we will find a way out. Had not got a way out, at least more lightly because we are not alone. This can actually make us become closer to other people and add a sense of comfort at that time and in the next relationship.
* Lighten the physical. There is a link between the mind body system. The existence of a positive influence on the mind (due to self-expression), resulting in the physical. Share or express yourself with others, making us less stress, less anxiety, and also relieve heart rate and blood pressure. In other words, self-disclosure can have a positive effect on physical health, but emotional.
* Flow clearer communication. By showing willingness to open up to others, and respect other people expressing themselves, then we increase the ability to understand the point of view or different perspective. Thus, we will be more confident to clarify intentions or meanings of others. Feedback through open discussion, vagueness in communication is minimized.
* Strengthen relationships. If antarekan better know each other, the reciprocal effect occurs: the openness to develop a growing excitement and resulted in increased transparency increasingly strong sense of fun. Without self-expression, the level of closeness and trust relationships are at a low level. Openness generated by the trust, and confidence generated by cooperation. In the organization, cooperation and mutual trust is to determine the most important innovation in order to remain able to survive and compete.
Moreover, the research found that when working more like antarekan cooperation, they are more productive in doing a project or in a team situation.

The experts recommend that men consume lots of fresh vegetables because it can reduce the risk of prostate cancer up to 32 percent. In addition to tomatoes, apples had and beans also have properties to prevent prostate cancer because quacertin contain active compounds. Recommendations were presented experts from the Mayo Clinic that was published in the journal Carcinogenesis.
In laboratory tests, Nianzeng Xing, cancer experts from the Department of Urology at the Mayo Clinic, proving that quacertin, able to block the male hormone receptors (androgen) that can prevent prostate cancer.
Various studies revealed that apple fruit are rich in fiber, phytochemicals, and flavonoids. Flavonoid substances, according to the National Cancer Institute study of the United States, could reduce the risk of illness from lung cancer by 50 percent.
Meanwhile, the Mayo Clinic research in 2001 proved quacertin, a type of flavonoid, which is found in apples, may help prevent prostate cancer cell growth.
In another study, researchers found that consumption of tomatoes mixed with broccoli has a stronger effect in the prostate compared to minimize disruption if the vegetables were eaten on its own. “Eat 1.4 cups of fresh tomatoes or half a bowl of tomato paste,” said Kirstie Cenene Adam, as quoted study leader ScienceDaily site.

People with asthma are deficient in vitamin D will experience a worsening of asthma. This vitamin deficiency is expected to block the response to steroid treatment is often used in drug and control asthma salve.
In his research, researchers at National Jewish Health (NJH) in Denver to measure vitamin D levels from 50 patients with asthma and assess lung function, hyper-responsiveness airways, which commonly occurs in the airways shrinkage, and reactions to steroid treatment.
Apparently, patients who have vitamin D deficiency showed poor results in the examination of lung function and hyper-responsiveness airways. Moreover, patients with vitamin D levels in the body below 30 nanograms / mL levels of hyper-responsiveness airways almost doubled, compared with those who had more vitamin D in their blood.
The level of low vitamin D is also associated with poorer response to steroid treatment and increased production of pro-inflammatory cytokine, TNF-alpha. It increases the possibility that vitamin D levels are associated with an increased lower airway inflammation, the researchers said.
In addition, vitamin D levels to predict how well someone will respond to steroid treatment for asthma. “That may be because vitamin D acts as a steroid response modifiers in a way that is consistent with people suffering from asthma,” said Dr E Rand Sutherland, from the division of pulmonary and critical medical care at NJH.
Participants have the worst levels of the lowest vitamin D, they said. Asthma associated with obesity, and lack of vitamin D may be a factor linking these two conditions, said Sutherland.
“Restoring normal levels of vitamin D in people with asthma may help improve their asthma,” Sutherland said. However, it is unknown whether vitamin D intake will help people with asthma, he said.
Vitamin D intake for adults is 300 IU recommended to 600 IU, depending on the age, said the U.S. National Institutes of Health.

Bladder dysfunction may actually be reduced in various ways. One of them by reducing the consumption of beverages containing caffeine, alcohol, and drugs.
“Caffeine is a substance that can boost heart rate and increased urine production,” said Mulyadi Tedjapranata, Medizone Clinic physicians in Apartment Taman Kemayoran, Central Jakarta.
According to Mulyadi, urinary disorders prevention efforts can be done as early as authentic as possible. Some ways you can do is get used to not resist the urge to urinate. For the kids, doing exercises urinating or even toileting assistance was to be done since the children aged below five years old or a toddler.
Another effective way is to avoid the use of the toilet seat. The use of the toilet seat in the long run will increase the risk of urinary tract infection that can lead to urinary problems. Because the surface of the toilet is generally to mediate the spread of germs. The use of squat toilets are even more better.
The reason is, this will make users not in direct contact with the surface so that more hygienic toilets. “Moreover, if you frequently use public toilet facilities, better squat toilets,” he said.
Not only that, the use of the toilet seat also makes muscles of the urinary tract to work harder when twitched or remove the urine. In the mild stage, urinary tract infections are usually marked with Anyang-anyangan or discharge of urine which was completely, lower abdominal pain, and pain at the end of urination.
This condition would interfere with our activities. In fact, if allowed to go on, it can cause urinary tract infections, psychosocial disorders such as depression and sleep disorders.
